Understanding and responding to relational trauma in CPP
About
Selma Fraiberg taught us about the “Ghosts in the Nursery, ” unmetabolised relationalexperiences that can haunt a parent’ s interactions with their child. Decades of work in
the area of domestic violence have shown how parents and children may serve as
trauma reminders for one another, triggering each other, hindering healing, and
interfering with safety within these critically important relationships. Two-generation
interventions, like Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), can repair relational trauma for
both generations. This workshop will include clinical cases, video and metaphors to
bring the CPP model and experience of infants and young children to light and
illustrate the interconnections between parents' and children’ s histories and
reactions.
