Surrey Hills Historical Society’s International Women’s Day

Join us for an afternoon celebrating some of the inspiring women who have helped shape our community and hear from historians - Helen Harris OAM and Sarah Cruze. Both are historians. Helen will speak on the role of women in local government. She is well versed in this subject. Her book The Right to Vote; The Right to Stand, was launched as part of centenary celebrations on 6 November 2014. It was awarded a Commendation in the 2015 Local History Awards.Sarah is a younger historian who holds a PhD in history from the University of Melbourne. She has lived with her family in Ashburton since 2009. Her most recent published work is Ashburton Stories: A history of the Melbourne suburb. Sarah will speak on the importance of women recording their life stories.
In addition to these presentations, there will be presentations made to two senior women who have been significant contributors to local community and on the wider stage.
