DANCING WITH THE DEVIL
In the summer of 2019-20, the Gosper’s Mountain fire raged for 107 days, consuming over a million hectares of bushland. A new documentary, Dancing with the Devil, delves into the profound impact of this devastating event on the people and landscapes of the surrounding region.
Through interviews with community members from areas such as St Albans, Colo Heights, and Bilpin, the film tells a story of trauma, confusion, hope, and humour. Residents reflect on the fires' toll while showcasing their resilience as they navigate the aftermath of this extraordinary challenge.
Commissioned by Hawkesbury City Council and funded through the Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants Program, Dancing with the Devil is written and produced by Sarah Allely and Bill Code. The documentary offers a poignant exploration of resilience in an era of climate uncertainty, featuring courageous, charismatic, and unconventional voices from the Hawkesbury community.
