Schubert – Overture to The Magic Harp
Handel – Harp Concerto in B-flat Major
Mahler – Symphony No. 1 in D Major
Join us as we journey from tranquil beauty to dramatic intensity, in a captivating concert that spans centuries of musical brilliance.
The afternoon begins with Franz Schubert's Overture to The Magic Harp, an enchanting and lyrical work that sets a tone of magic and wonder. Following this is George Frideric Handel’s Harp Concerto in B-flat Major, featuring soloist Joyce Kwok, where the harp takes centre stage, weaving its elegance and beauty through the rich Baroque textures of the orchestra.
Concluding the concert is Gustav Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 1 in D Major, the 'Titan'. In our first ever performance of this breathtaking work, the Norwood Symphony Orchestra will take the audience on an emotional journey through triumphant fanfares, pastoral landscapes, lively dances and a funeral march, culminating in a dramatic and awe-inspiring finale.
