Staging Transness: UK trans performance beyond testimony

2025 CHASS Distinguished Visiting Research Fellow in the Flinders Drama Centre.Dr Rachel Hann is is Associate Professor in Performance and Design and a current AHRC Fellow at Northumbria University, Newcastle (UK). She researches material cultures of scenography, transness, and climate crisis. Rachel is the author of Beyond Scenography (Routledge 2019) and co-founder of the research network Critical Costume. From 2024-2025, she is PI for an AHRC Fellowship entitled Trans Performance Now: Glitching cisgenderism, which examines the producing cultures for trans-orientated work in the UK.
Rachel is a world expert on trans and non-binary performance, with her research spanning across cultures of scenography, climate crisis, digital humanities, and more. This event marks the first in a six-week series of ‘trans takeover’ events within Assemblage, which includes international artists Glace Chase and Travis Alabanza.
