Grand Opening Gala at Langley Estate - Repeat Performance
About
Thomas and Simone Heywood are delighted to announce, by popular demand, the repeat performance of the opening solo concert on the 1875 George 'Grandfather' Fincham Pipe Organ, newly installed in the 1873 Lauriston Chapel at Langley Estate.Originally built for the ballroom of ‘Findon’ in Kew, owned by the Hon. Henry ‘Money’ Miller, the organ was never installed there. Instead, it remained at Fincham’s Richmond factory, where it became an exhibition instrument. It was even used for practice by a teenage Dame Nellie Melba during her organ lessons!
Restored and enhanced by Daniel Bittner and his team at Australian Pipe Organs, the instrument now sounds as magnificent as it looks. Remarkably, its gold facade pipes feature gold leaf sourced from the Bendigo goldfields in 1875!
Join us as Thomas Heywood, hailed as 'one of the world’s best concert organists,' showcases this extraordinary instrument in the Lauriston Chapel.
