Free public lecture: The Flexible Performer in VR

About
In this final presentation from his 2024 Artist in Residency with Assemblage, Dr Lawrence Ashford examines how theatre makers create works capable of recognising audience agency over narrative, and how that agency might be limited by contemporary theatrical practice. The model of flexible performance Lawrence has identified through his research has implications not only for interactive theatre, but for applied theatre and arts and health settings where participant agency is paramount. Such contexts provide valuable opportunities for performers to develop their practice while contributing to meaningful social outcomes. Finally, Lawrence considers the implications of these findings for performance in virtual settings, exploring new perspectives on agency in interactive performance and further consideration of how we might prepare performers for this evolving field.Location
