Frank Arkell (1929–1998) was the most successful politician of his generation; an Independent who served as Wollongong’s Lord Mayor (1974–1991) and state member (1984–1991).This new book is the first major biography of this controversial figure in Wollongong history. Award-winning historian Erik Eklund has scoured the archival records, spoken to many of the key players who knew Arkell, and accessed Royal Commission transcripts to deliver a work that is as uncompromising as it is poignant.
The book will be officially launched by Mr Nick Hartgerink, media consultant, author, former journalist and editor of the 'Illawarra Mercury' (1995 to 2001).
