Justinn Lu & Peter de Jager - son histoire spleenétique
Filipino-Australian saxophonist Justinn Lu has always been drawn to the power of storytelling in music. Alongside pianist Peter de Jager, Justinn presents son histoire spleenétique (“his melancholic tale”). This concert title comes from a poem by Suzanne Malard, attached to Henri Tomasi’s Ballade, the opening work of this program. The story follows a clown drowning in loneliness, whose old jokes now taste like cigarette butts—until the call of the public revives him once more.
Featuring canonic works for the saxophone and newer works rarely heard in Australia, this program invites audiences on a deeply emotional journey.
