Charpentier’s Assumpta est Maria

About
The sumptuous sacred music of Marc-Antoine Charpentier (1643-1704) reflects the refined grandeur promoted by his exact contemporary, the “Sun King" Louis XIV. After studies in Rome and periods working for the Duchess de Guise and the Dauphin, Charpentier was employed at the Jesuit church of Saint-Louis, Paris. In 1698, he was appointed maître de musique at the Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, a royal post which he held until his death. His Mass Assumpta est Maria dates from this final period.Afternoon tea will be served too!
