Dancing from the Centre

A Workshop in Contact Improvisation

Open to all levels of experience

Inspired by our rich dances together, we invite you to this workshop exploring what it means to dance from our centre, and what it means to move ‘organically’ in a dance.

The exercises we will dive into are based on the following inquiries that we share:

~ How can we be in a state of non-doing, non-forcing, and of deep listening?

~ How can we dance from a place where less is more?

~ How can we remove ‘ideas’ of what is supposed to occur, and allow the dance to surprise us?

We have loved the combination of subtlety and depth that arises when we dance with these principles. Our intention is to create a space where this quality can arise in a group setting, leading to a jam.

About Your Facilitators

Lillian Donnell is a multi-modal movement coach, with a background in aerial silks, Animal Flow, functional mobility training, and Contact Improvisation. Her current CI curiosities include bringing principles of meditative practice into the dance; whole body awareness, presence, and a quality of non-doing.

Mapi Rosa Labat began her practice in CI over 12 years ago in Argentina. Since then, she has danced internationally; teaching and creating dance residencies. In this workshop, Mapi will be drawing on her many years of CI experience, her studies in Feldenkrais, and inspiration from Nita Little’s recent workshop in Sydney.
