About
This workshop will provide essential skills and understanding about psychologically traumatic events and how these can affect older people receiving care. Participants will learn the principles of trauma-informed care, and develop practical skills to apply these principles in aged care settings.
Learning outcomes:
• Understand the nature and long-term impacts of psychological trauma, including when receiving care
• Know how to identify trauma-related needs among people accessing aged care services
• Have skills in adapting care behaviours to meet trauma-related needs

Dr Monica Cations, Senior Clinical Psychologist for SA Health and Senior Research Fellow at Flinders University
Dr Monica Cations is a senior clinical psychologist working within the geriatric care services in South Australia Health. She has worked with older adults and people with dementia for nearly two decades, adapting her clinical skills to meet the unique needs of these populations. She has a special interest in supporting older people who have survived psychologically traumatic events. In addition to her clinical work, Dr Cations is also a Senior Research Fellow at Flinders University.
