Marvellous and Mysterious Myxomycetes
About
Slime moulds (Myxomycetes) have surely been lumbered with the most unappealing of names for a taxonomic group. But to those who appreciate them, slime moulds are a fascinating and attractive group. Karina Knight will share with you the beauty and wonders of these tiny organisms, including their classification, life cycle and structure, distribution and habitats, common species, and how to preserve specimens for study.Karina comes to us from extensive experience in Herbaria and Herbarium Management with a career spanning 36 years at the Western Australian Herbarium; the last 15 years as the Collections Manager and Volunteer Coordinator, before retiring in mid-2019. Karina has documented her slime mould findings by the addition of nearly 700 collections to the Herbarium which includes just over 30 new species recorded for W.A. Karina has to date described one new species with potential other new species under research with international partners.
