A Colourful Storm presents Maxine Funke + Troth
A Colourful Storm presents Maxine Funke (NZ) with support by Newcastle duo Troth.
Maxine Funke is a folk-inspired singer/songwriter whose hushed, enigmatic, lo-fi acoustic recordings draw comparison to work by Vashti Bunyan and Sibylle Baier. After brief tenures on electric guitar alongside her drumming stepfather, Mike Dooley, she met and became the partner of Alastair Galbraith, an experimental musician and ex-frontman of '80s Flying Nun act the Rip. Alongside Galbraith and Dooley, Funke played cello in the improvisational Hundred Dollar Band before compiling acoustic solo recordings from the era that would become the album, Lace. She recorded Felt (2012) and Silk (2018) before releasing Seance with A Colourful Storm in 2021.
Troth is Awabakal/Newcastle based ambient, experimental and synth-pop duo Amelia Besseny and Cooper Bowman (Altered States Tapes). Together they "fashion ethereal environs from vocals, electronics, zither, tape loops and sampled percussion & piano."
