Workshop - NSSI - Non-suicidal self-injury
About
Although unfortunately all too common, Non-Suicidal Self Injury (NSSI) is an often misunderstood and stigmatised behaviour. Parents, whanauand other support people often struggle to know how best to respond to and support the person who is deliberately hurting themselves. Given
the person's distress and significant increased risks to suicide, it is crucial that we give the person the right support and response.
Through her own personal experience of NSSI, combined with academic research, Kirsty Moore has developed this 2 hour presentation
specifically for parents and whanau. Participants will gain an understanding of what NSSI is (and isn't), and learn the practical skills
and knowledge to best support people who are struggling.
You will learn:
the latest scientific research & theory and the links to suicide
ways to respond well to disclosure of NSSI and how to have safe conversations.
There will also be plenty of time for questions.
