Route Setting Development (RSD) is the route setting division of the Association of British Climbing Walls, which aims to provide aspiring & established route setters with with recognised qualifications & workshops in order to improve setting safety, productivity & creativity.
This is a two-day in-person training for setters with some experience.
PRE-REQUISITES:
You MUST:
1. Be an RSD Member
2. Have completed either the half day Route Setting Essentials online training OR the one day in-person Route Setting Basics training
AND
2. Have completed an RSD Setting In Practice training and assessment
prior to attending this course.
REMIT: supervised roped setting at a variety of centres on a variety of angles at the discretion of the centre supervisor
RE-VALIDATION: none required provided the assessment is then completed.
This course includes the use of all necessary equipment for setting and working at height.
ONGOING FOLLOWING THIS COURSE:
LOGGED QUALITY ROPED SETTING to provide evidence of a minimum of 15 roped routes set and stripped, including attaching larger holds as well as troubleshooting simple stuck holds before booking a Commercial Roped Setter Assessment.
After completing this course candidates now need to complete a separate one day assessment. Upon successfully completing the assessment the candidate will be issued with the RSD Commercial Roped Setter certificate. This certificate is valid for three years.

Arrampica also provide these services for the education sector including schools and outdoor pursuits centres, as well as suitably qualified and experienced memebers of the general public.
Arrampica are an ERCA training body, a Mountain Training Course Provider and a Route Setting Association provider.
