A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (plus panel Q & A)
About
Ana Lily Amirpour’s debut is a vampire film that defangs the patriarchy and reclaims the night. With shades of early David Lynch and Jim Jarmusch, Amirpour effortlessly mixes spaghetti westerns, James Dean aesthetics and Iranian new wave cinema, all set to an atmospheric soundtrack. Through subtle use of mood, weirdness and lighting she creates a charged atmosphere where anything could happen.
In the monochrome world of Bad City, we meet Girl, a skateboarding, chador-wearing vampire who preys on men, specifically men who are mean to women. She stalks the streets hidden in the shadows, unseen by almost everyone except for Arash, a brooding young man who shares an apartment with his heroin addicted father and a cat he has picked up from the street.
“The best vampire film ever made” — the Independent “Strange, wonderful and special” — the Guardian
“Beguiling, moody and gorgeous” — the Hollywood Reporter
