Tours of St Mary de Haura Church
About
Dating from the year 1103, St Mary de Haura is the parish church of New Shoreham. It is a Grade 1 listed building for both its historical and architectural distinctiveness. It sits in the centre of the lovely Sussex town in the centre of its large churchyard. The setting, with its lovely trees, quiet ambience and seating make it an attractive place to pause and ponder. Features which the church tour will highlight include Romanesque and transitional Gothic architecture, mediaeval graffiti, two Kempe stained-glass windows and a war memorial which honours the only RAF serviceman awarded the Victoria Cross in the Second World War.
The church tours have been arranged in partnership with the Shoreham Society which itself is putting on a stunning range of Heritage Open Days events.
