Introducing Marianne Kimani, Deputy Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire. The Marianne Chronicles: Courageously Becoming Me
The Black History Month 2024 theme is ‘Reclaiming Narratives.’ I will share my personal narrative, life experiences and lessons of overcoming challenges and challenging the status quo within social justice and law enforcement. As a Black woman I have faced systemic barriers and bias that have informed to my life choices and decisions. Through resilience, education, commitment, and determination, I have navigated some of these obstacles. There is still a lot of work to be done to address equality and equity. I will tell you how I turned obstacles to opportunities for transformation and growth. I will share some ideas on what careers paths you may consider with your criminology degree. I hope to motivate you to be agents of positive change and advocates for justice using your unique voices and reclaiming your narratives.
