Established in 1963, the Indian Painters Collective UK (IPC) was set up by four painters; Gajanan Bhagwat, (Yashwant) Mali, Lancelot Ribeiro and Ibrahim Wagh. A 25-year movement, the IPC evolved into Indian Artists UK (IAUK) and spearheaded change, advocating for the contributions of artists from the Subcontinent to be recognised within Britain’s art establishment. It was the first body of its kind outside India and the first to stage an exhibition of Indian artists who ‘hoped to catapult themselves on the British scene’. In their Voices tells the story of the Collectives in two parts: an online presentation by Marsha Ribeiro through the lens of the Lancelot Ribeiro Archive supplemented by testimonials from former painter-members.Date
