Creating Rainforest at Low Fell
Join us for an insightful training day led by Angus Walsh, Cumbria Woodlands’ Rainforest Lead, and Sally Phillips, Founder of Buy Land Plant Trees CIC.
Over the past few years, Buy Land Plant Trees CIC has been working to restore 158 acres of temperate rainforest, upland heath, and other rare habitats at Low Fell—without the use of plastic, intensive ground preparation, or chemicals. This session will showcase their innovative approach to woodland creation and the challenges of upland reforestation.
The day will explore:
🌱 How to establish new woodlands without plastic guards
🌱 Challenges and solutions in upland reforestation
🌱 Novel fencing techniques for site protection
🌱 Using grants in a non-standard way to support nature-friendly tree planting
Come and see firsthand how Low Fell is being transformed into a thriving temperate rainforest—while exploring practical, sustainable methods that can be applied to other woodland creation projects.
