With raving reviews, Assi marks Roy Assaf's impressive debut as both director and scriptwriter. The film follows Assi, a soldier returning from IDF reserve duty in the south of Israel. As he walks into a small local theater in his uniform, it's clear that something is weighing on him. Performing in a cabaret show that humorously portrays life in his town, Assi also works as a drama teacher at the local high school. However, when a video of him speaking out against the IDF service goes viral, Assi becomes a public enemy. Struggling with post-trauma, he uses his cabaret show to fiercely critique Israeli society, where expressing a dissenting opinion has become increasingly dangerous.
