About

Walk the Wick is a free, informal, social walk around Canvey Wick Nature Reserve that takes place on alternating Wednesdays.

Canvey Wick is a brownfield Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), which was developed to be an oil refinery in the 1970s. However, no oil was ever brought onto the site, and for several decades, while discussions took place about what would happen next, nature moved back in! Now it is home to a national important assemblage of invertebrates, as well as lots of interesting plants, birds, mammals and reptiles. These walks vary in length, depending on how many things we stop to look at! There is always something different.

We meet at 10am in Morrisons Community Room, and return back there for refreshments at 12. The Community Room is just inside the entrance to the store, opposite Timpson and the Lottery counter, and behind the Costa coffee machine. Please dress for the weather and wear sensible shoes (no sandals).

Sessions are free, but we ask you to sign up so that we are able to contact you in case there is a change of plan on the day.

Contact Community Warden Katie if you have any question - Katie.Hargreaves@buglife.org.uk. Please let us know if you have any additional needs and we will do our best to accommodate these.
