Barney's Summer Activity Weeks 2025

Barney's Activity Weeks are open to all children who are due to start Reception in September 2025 up to those due to start Year 9 in September 2025. It is a fun-filled week of activities, ranging from swimming, Forest School and canoeing, to onsite activities such as Catch the Flag, baking and Quick Cricket. No coaching – just fun!

Sister Act The Musical - Barnard Castle School

Join the cast of 'Sister Act' for Barney's Lent Term Senior Musical! When disco diva Deloris Van Cartier witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in one place the cops are sure she won't be found: a convent! Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood. Featuring original music by Tony® and 8-time Oscar® winner Alan Menken (Disney’s Aladdin, Enchanted) and songs inspired by Motown, soul and disco, this heavenly musical is joyous and uplifting in equal measure.

The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace - Ripon Cathedral

Barnard Castle Choral Society, Youth Choirs and Barnard Castle Chapel Choir perform Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace on 30th November at Ripon Cathedral The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace was commissioned by the Royal Armouries to mark the transition from one millennium to another. It reflects on the passing of ‘the most war-torn and destructive century in human history’ and looks forward in hope to a more peaceful future. The Armed Man is dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo conflict, whose tragedy was unfolding as it was being composed. It was first performed in 2000 by the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, conducted by Jenkins himself.

Twelfth Night tells the story of Viola, a young heroine who washes up on the shores of Illyria, disguises herself as a man, is sent to court a countess and falls hard for a Duke. As she navigates this strange and wonderful new land, she finds her true self and true love in the process.

J.S. Bach's St John Passion

In the St John Passion, Bach sets the Passion of Christ to music as the story is told in the Gospel of John. He first performed the piece at Vespers on Good Friday (the Friday before Easter), in Leipzig. It was the first Passion music he had written as cantor in Leipzig. Barnard Castle School Choral Society, orchestra and soloists give a performance to mark the 300th anniversary of the first performance in 1724.

Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Spamalot retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features cows, killer rabbits, and French people. The 2005 Broadway production won three Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, and was followed by two successful West End runs.

Evening Concert: Vox Populi (Choir)

Vox Populi is a professional consort of classical singers based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, made up of graduate vocalists from the North East. The singers regularly perform a variety of repertoire, from early Renaissance works to modern arrangements of contemporary songs, and have developed a reputation in the North East for their engaging themed programmes and enchanting harmony. In their first concert at Barnard Castle Chapel, the choir presents an exciting and diverse programme of some of their favourite choral works, including pieces by William Byrd, Thomas Tallis, Oliver Tarney and Cecilia McDowall.
