Learn to Ride for Beginners and Improvers

Free cycle training in Bury St Edmunds! EcoCarriers Bury St Edmunds is on a mission to help everyone cycle more! Join us at one of our sessions, for beginners or improvers, and learn to ride. These sessions are free thanks to funding from Cycling UK, and they are intended to help adults learn to cycle. Cycling is fantastic for family adventures so if you have a child who would like to learn please book them in and enjoy learning together (their accompanying adult should cycle one lap of the car park too, or try to!). Loan bikes are available on request - give us the details when you book. Bookings will close 24 hours before the event. If you have a bike and would like help checking it is in good working order, please book it in for separate Dr Bike maintenance check available on the same day for free. Dr Bike (Bike Maintenance Check)

Get your bike checked over and any niggles sorted ready for riding. Free. Our mechanic will check over your bike and fix any minor issues to get you up and riding safely. If there's a problem that can't be fixed in the time available, they will advise you how to get it sorted out. Bookings will close 24 hours before the event. Confidence-Building Group Cycle Ride

Between Sunday 30 June 2024 and Sunday 1 September 2024
Build confidence for everyday riding with a ride around Bury St Edmunds, led by Suffolk County Council instructors. A gentle guided ride to explore cycle routes and quiet roads within Bury St Edmunds. There may be coffee and cake!

Bury's Best, By Bike

Between Saturday 20 July 2024 and Saturday 31 August 2024
Join us for a ride around the town's iconic historic sights in the town centre by PedalCab. The 25 minute tour, which takes in the Abbey Gardens, St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds and many more sights is open to everyone. It is ideal for those facing mobility challenges or disabilities that hinder their independent travel or participation in a walking tour. Monday to Saturday on the half hour from 10am to 12.30pm (last trip). Other times may be available on request - contact 01284 413441. Suggested donation: £5 per person.

Dr Bike (bike maintenance check)

Between Saturday 13 July 2024 and Saturday 24 August 2024
Our mechanic will check over your bike and fix any minor issues to get you up and riding safely. If there's a problem that can't be fixed in the time available, they will advise you how to get it sorted out. Bookings are free and will close 24 hours before the event. Bikeability Cycle Training. Combined Level 1&2 2 day course.

Held over two days, 2 x two hour sessions and a break for lunch Qualified Suffolk County Council instructors Open to anyone aged 8 or over (including adults) Level 1 teaches you how to ride a bike safely away from traffic: - What to wear when riding (including fitting of helmets & hi visibility clothing) - Basic day-to-day cycle checks - Starting and stopping a journey - Pedaling and gliding - Riding with one hand (for signalling) Level 2 teaches road skills for beginners and is delivered on the highway in areas with low traffic volumes, speed (30 MPH or less) and good visibility: - Correct road positions - Starting and stopping - Turning left and right into and out of simple junctions - Dealing with parked vehicles or similar obstructions Borrow a bike from the Bike Library for an extra £5 This course does not teach people how to ride a bike, it teaches participants how to ride safely Supported by Sybil Andrews Academy and Skyliner
