The Running of the Deer with Granta Chorale

The Running of the Deer: Granta Chorale bring Christmas to The Painted Church with their annual concert of seasonal music featuring carols old and new, including music by Poulenc, Rutter, Warlock, Weir and many more. The concert will première the winning entry in their Carol Competition, setting The Refugee Carol, a newly commissioned poem by Moyra Tourlamain. Doors will open at 6:30 pm, and the bar will have mulled wine and mince pies before the concert and during the half hour interval. There will be a retiring collecting for Jimmy’s, a community-based charity providing both support and housing to people who are rough sleeping. More on Granta Chorale here: www.grantachorale.org.uk

Mika Curson, Solo Recorder; John Zhang, Piano

Early and Contemporary works for solo recorder, with piano accompaniment for one piece, including CP Bach' s Flute sonata in A minor, and works by Giovanni Bassano, Fumiharu Yoshimine, GP Telemann, Dani Howard, Paul Leenhouts and Norman Fulton. Mika Curson is a final-year music student at Jesus College. She is heavily involved in Cambridge’s student performance scene as both a recorder player and cellist and was previously a choral scholar in Jesus College Choir. Mika is currently Co-President of Jesus College Music Society and Orchestral Representative for the Cambridge University Opera Society. John Zhang is a third-year music student and senior organ scholar of St Catharine's College. His formative musical years were spent at the Junior Royal Academy of Music, and he has had organ scholarships at various places – he started out in St. Giles Cripplegate, spent his sixth form at Her Majesty’s Chapel Royal, St. James’ Palace and his gap year at Liverpool Cathedral.
