Rosewell Talk with Rob Eastaway - Much Ado About Numbers

Tuesday 4 October 2022
Shakespeare and Maths are two unavoidable subjects at school.  But what happens when the two are combined?  What is the maths in Shakespeare, and what was Shakespearean maths?  Find out how Tudors multiplied, why Shakespeare never ended a line with the word orange, why King Lear was every inch a king, and why early drafts of the plays could possibly have been written with a pencil.  With historical asides about calendars, optics and music thrown in, you might never think about maths or Shakespeare the same way again. Rob Eastaway is a mathematician, speaker and author, whose books include the bestselling Why Do Buses Come In Threes? and Maths On The Back of An Envelope.   He is the Director of Maths Inspiration, a national programme of theatre based lecture shows for teenagers, and is the mathematical puzzle editor for New Scientist magazine.
