Essential Lifesaving Skills

This free three-day course will give you the knowledge and lifesaving skills to effectively assess and treat someone who is not breathing. The skills will include how to conduct the primary survey and deliver cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult, child or baby and how to access and use a defibrillator. It will also provide you with skills to safely administer emergency first aid in variety of situations. It includes topics such as choking, bleeding, shock, minor injuries, burns, seizures, secondary survey and recovery position.
The course is free for Lancashire residents.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- carry out a primary survey
- deliver cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on an adult, child or baby
- understand how to access and use a defibrillator
- recognise and understand how to treat choking
- identify & respond to minor injuries including nosebleeds, bruises, splinters, bites & stings
- recognise & respond to a casualty that is bleeding, in shock, burnt or having a seizure
- understand when and how to safely place someone in the recovery position
