How Do We Cultivate Compassion? SENSE(LESS) Live

About
Compassion is the recognition of another’s suffering and the desire to help them. It’s vital to many personal and professional relationships, and key to several different services, including healthcare. It’s one of the six values in the National Health Service (NHS) Constitution. Compassionate care can be compromised by staff experience of empathy-based stress, which includes compassion fatigue and secondary trauma, and which overlaps with burnout. Compassion fatigue is physical and emotional exhaustion and reduced compassion. A lack of compassion in healthcare has been associated with severe and sometimes fatal consequences so it’s important we understand how to cultivate and sustain it.In this live podcast Dr Lucy Maddox will speak to Mike and Naomi, the hosts of the SENSE(LESS) podcast about compassion, including her research in teenage mental heath ward settings.
