SAVA
About
Sava is a 990 km journey through countries once united under Yugoslavia. This documentary explores the complex relationship between nature, identity, and nationhood along the banks of the Sava river.Through the film we meet steelworkers, swimmers, ferrymen, drag queens, artists, war veterans, young families and anarchists. They share stories related
to identity, nature, nationalism and the Sava itself to create discourse among disconnected people with a common heritage. Mira Furlan voices the Sava river, representing mother nature. Her tragic passing in 2021 was a sad loss, but an honour to include her final message.
The film explores contemporary stories challenging overexposed conflict narratives. mpires and nations change, nature endures without judgement. As nationalism rises and climate changes, nature needs a voice. The film screening will include a Q&A session with Dan McCrum.
