A welcome return to Silverdale for the sublime Gesualdo Six. In this programme the virtuoso singers present a selection of Motets and Chansons from the sixteenth century French Court, commemorating key moments in the reigns of Europe’s queens: Anne of Brittany, Margaret of Austria, Anne Boleyn and Mary Tudor. Reflecting on these earthly regencies, devotional motets for the Virgin Mary are interwoven with texts from the Song of Songs.The programme will also include new works commissioned by the ensemble, setting Renaissance French poetry to music composed by director Owain Park, and by Ninfea Crutwell-Reade.
