Marian Consort - Light of the World
About
The Marian Consort explore music from England’s turbulent 17th Century. Doleful works from the dying embers of the English Renaissance by Byrd and Tomkins are contrasted with the Italianate brilliance of the ‘English Orpheus’, Henry Purcell. Interspersed with these are John Woolrich’s settings of three texts by 18th century poet, Christopher Smart . Bookending the programme are works of glowing luminosity by Deborah Pritchard, as the choir are joined by Bulgarian violinist Greta Mutlu.
