Bat Walk with Norfolk & Norwich Bat Group
About
Join us to explore the fascinating world of bats, hidden within our private woodland on Deepdale Farm. An expert volunteer from the Norfolk & Norwich Bat Group will provide the equipment and knowledge to discover the various species that utilise the habitats within our woodland.
We will meet at 8:30pm at Downs Barn, allowing us time to sort out bat detectors and learn how to use them, before sunset which is at 8:54pm.
After a safety briefing, we will set off along a woodland track, walking slowly and stopping at intervals to listen for bat activity. Jane, our bat expert, will provide interesting facts throughout the walk and there will be lots of time to ask questions. We will aim to be back at the barn about 10:30-10:45pm.
We hope to hear a number of bat species including Daubenton’s, Barbastelle, Pipistrelle. But bat activity always depends on the weather so nothing can be guaranteed.
To allow more people to discover the world of bats within our woodland, bat detectors will be shared. There will be one per couple or family group, with a recommendation of no more than 2 adults, 3 children per group. Each lead adult is priced at £10, with each additional adult or child being £5. Any bookings made without a lead adult ticket being purchased will be withheld or cancelled unless a lead adult price is purchased.
This guided walk is suitable for anyone aged 8 years and above (Although please take into account the late timings). Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a paying adult.
The distance will depend on bat activity, but is unlikely to be more than a mile. We will walk at a slow pace for approximately 60-90 minutes depending on bat activity, interest and conditions. However, as some terrain may be a little rough and as it will be dark, please ensure you feel confident walking in these conditions.
Please come prepared with warm clothing as the pace of the walk is slow. We recommend sturdy shoes as the terrain is uneven (walking boots ideal, but trainers adequate) and wearing trousers to avoid stinging nettles. Bug spray is also recommended.
Don’t miss the first bat walk at Deepdale Farm. We’re just as interested as you, to know what will be found.
Please note no dogs are permitted on this experience.
