Schubert & Co
About
A Schubert & Co. concert recreates the spirit of the original ‘Schubertiade’, with an intimate and informal atmosphere of music making that was so close to the heart of Schubert and many other composers. With a company of six renowned singers gathered around the piano, performing both as soloists and an ensemble, they include many favourite Schubert songs, but also a selection of part-songs that he wrote for intimate gatherings of friends and which reveal some of the composer's finest and most personal works. As you enter the concert hall, expect to receive a warm welcome from the singers, while Ländler and other Schubertian dances are played on the piano. Solo and ensemble works are introduced from the stage, and the audience is warmly invited to chat with the performers before and after the concert, as well as during the interval.

A balance of familiar works and an introduction to rarely-heard masterpieces is a trademark of Schubert & Co. recitals. Tonight they also offer an insight into Schubert's Vienna: the influence he owed to Italian bel canto and Rossini, and some of the many other composers whose music was probably better known than Schubert's in its time. There is a treasure-trove of beautiful music: expect a truly uplifting evening.
