About
Girton College Music Society is performing Gian Carlo Menotti's 'Amahl and the Night Visitors' (1951). This one-hour long, single-act chamber opera is full of humour, jollity, and will get you in the festive spirit!Synopsis:
Amahl, a disabled boy who can walk only with a crutch, is playing outside and sees a shooting star. Later that night, the Magi knock on their door, asking to stay at their house. When everyone is asleep, the mother attempts to steal some of the kings’ gold that was meant for the Christ Child, but is thwarted by the kings’ page. The kings prepare to continue their journey, and she wishes to send a gift but has nothing to give. Amahl offers his crutch to the kings, and his leg is miraculously healed. With permission from his mother, he leaves with the kings to see the Child and give his crutch in thanks for being healed.
