Benjamin Britten’s ‘A Ceremony of Carols’ is a choral composition for Christmas, composed during a hazardous journey across the Atlantic in 1942. We will sing the 1943 version for full choir. Britten’s wonderful settings of Latin and medieval texts have a virtuosic harp accompaniment. Vocalis will be joined by locally born harpist Lucinda Taylor and organist Anthony Gray, Director of Music at St Wilfrid’s Church.
Favourites by Todd, Beamish, Poston and Weelkes are also included. The audience will be invited in singing some carols. Refreshments will be available.
