Civil Service Choir: The Mystery of Winter
About
The outstanding Civil Service Choir performs a varied programme reflecting the mystery of the winter season. The choir has been described as one of London’s best amateur ensembles and has delighted audiences at prestigious venues such as Sinfonia Smith Square for over a decade.Haydn’s joyful setting of the Latin Mass is beautifully complemented by Elgar’s 'Serenade for Strings', one of his most popular instrumental pieces. The programme also features Elgar’s lesser known but no less delightful 'The Snow', a traditional choral piece which sets the winter theme along with the popular and much-loved 'A Hymn To the Virgin' (Britten) and 'A Spotless Rose' (Howells). The programme also includes Gjeilo’s stunning modern classics 'Serenity' and 'The Rose', Sandström’s otherworldly eight-voice arrangement of the familiar hymn 'Es ist ein Ros entsprungen' and Lauridsen’s ethereal unaccompanied setting of 'O Magnum Mysterium'.
