The Lancaster & District Choral Society will perform the rarely heard Petite Messe Solennelle by Gioachino Rossini.
​Composed in 1863, this remarkable work is one of Rossini's final compositions and showcases his operatic style with the words of the Solemn Mass.
Scored for four soloists, choir, piano, and harmonium, the Petite Messe Solennelle is a blend of intimate chamber music and grand choral writing, rich with emotion, complexity and vast dynamic contrasts.
