Join us on the newly improved Lancaster Canal Towpath Trail to enjoy a variety of free events!Take your pick from guided walks and bike rides, boat trips, nature connection walks and/or a Troll Trail! Please follow this link to download your Troll Trail map.
You're welcome to join us for more than one activity, just use the booking links below to secure your spot :-)
All the events are free thanks to funding given to Canal & River Trust from Westmorland & Furness Council.

Mon 17th Feb : Family-friendly ride with hot chocolate stop along the way!
Your guide is Emily Wormald, a British Cycling level 3 guide and founder of the Lakes Gravel Gang!
Each ride will be fully guided, with riders supported, encouraged and looked after along the length of each journey.
If you would like to hire a bike to join this event, please contact the organiser.
Each ride will travel at a gentle, social pace, ensuring all riders keep together. We will also stop at a planned point for cake, hot drinks and off-bike social time.
At the end of the ride the riders will gather for a review, giving riders tips and tricks for future rides and signposting to suitable rides, locations or groups.
Mon 17th Feb : Womens ride, with cake and chat stops along the way!

Tue 18th Feb : Creative Wellbeing - Nature Doodling on the Towpath Trail
Join the brilliant Ruth Kirk, founder of 'At Natures Pace' and trusted Nature Connection Guide and Outdoor Educator on a doodling workshop to slow down and reconnect along the beautifully biodiverse Towpath Trail.
It’s not about being great at drawing! Anyone can do it. Learn how to see, not how to draw and discover how doodling nature can improve your health and wellbeing.
Nature Doodling is a wonderfully mindful way to develop a deeper connection with nature through the creative experience of sketching. It’s not however, about being great at drawing! Anyone can do it. Nature Doodling is about learning how to see, not how to draw.
The focus of this fun session is on observation, not artwork; enjoying nature, not learning about it; sketching in your own way for your own wellbeing.
The benefits include helping you to see and notice more, improving memory, slowing down, focusing and being mindful, improving mood and lifting the spirits. And all of these things help to reduce stress and anxiety and draw on the healing power of nature.
Please wear:
Outdoor clothing, walking boots or sturdy shoes
Please bring:
Rucksack with a drink and a snack.
Waterproof coat and trousers
All equipment provided.

Wed 19th Feb : Heritage Walk!
Join Bill Froggatt, Canal & River Trust's very own Heritage expert on a short walk with stops at specific heritage points of interest.
Meeting at 10am at the Millness Car Park (near the Texaco Canal Garage on the A65 what three words ///router.airbase.author) we'll walk along the Towpath Trail to Hincaster Tunnel and back again. We expect this will take no more than three hours, its a 6 mile walk and is mainly flat.
Bill will reveal the fascinating heritage of the Lancaster Canal in general and also provide a 'deep dive' of insights into the listed structures on route such as Stainton Aqueduct and Hincaster Tunnel.
Thu 20th Feb : Waterwitch Boat Trip!
Enjoy a boat trip on the scenic northern reaches of the Lancaster Canal, England’s most northerly canal.
You'll see open countryside pleasant scenery, wildlife and the Lake District hills in the distance.
The Waterwitch is a purpose built 28 foot trip boat with adjustable side windows to suit the weather and licensed for up to 12 passengers. Our skippers and crew are trained and certificated to the Maritime and Coastguard regulations.
The trip is approximately 40 minutes long and you'll find us at our base in Crooklands, on the A65 six miles south of Kendal. At the Crooklands Hotel cross over the canal bridge, turn right and you have arrived. We are 1 mile from the M6 junction 36. Well behaved dog welcome.
