Rookhow 300th anniversary weekend

Friday 6th - Sunday 8th June 2025
with a big gathering on Saturday 7th June
300 years ago people travelled from outlying areas to Rookhow to meet with their wider Quaker community. In the spirit of this, for the 300th anniversary we would like to invite people to travel on foot or cycle from different places to a Meeting for Worship, shared simple lunch with an afternoon of speakers and activities.
There will be 3 cycle rides from local Meeting Houses and a walk from Newby Bridge via High Dam. People can also share lifts from local train stations, park close by and walk to Rookhow.
We're hoping a group of people of all ages will choose to stay on site as hosts and welcome those who arrive on the Saturday. People may also stay on the Saturday night.
There will be a large Meeting for Worship at 12noon on Saturday , followed by a shared lunch (bring simple homemade food if possible). At 2pm there will be 2 speakers: Rex Ambler, a local Quaker theologian and another speaker, tbc, inviting us to think about 'Rookhow Then' & 'Rookhow Now & the Future'. Wise Up Workshops will run an alternative session for children & young people and then we will all join in an all age celebration.
We hope this event will bring together local F(f)riends and Rookhow supporters from across the UK.
